Snow Leopard (10.6.x) Compatibility

Our Snow Leopard compatible BackJack v5.2.0 has just been released and is available for immediate download at BackJack520.zip. This specific download is the final release version and is meant for users that already have a previous version of BackJack5 installed.

For new installations or those wishing to take advantage of our 15-day Free Trial, the full installer is available from our Free Trial page.

The BackJack v5.2.0b1 beta test has now opened up to all users and is currently the default download for new clients taking advantage of the 15-day Free Trial. The full installer is available from the Free Trial page while just the BackJack application itself (meant to replace the application for an existing install) is available at BackJack520b1.zip.

A Snow Leopard compatible version of BackJack will be available to match the release of Snow Leopard v10.6.2.

As previously announced, the current version of BackJack is not compatible with Mac OS X Snow Leopard (10.6.0). We wish to re-state that in order to ensure the secure, off-site protection of your critical files, do not upgrade your operating system to Snow Leopard until a compatible version of BackJack has been released.

The incompatibilities we are experiencing are not specifically due to a problem with Snow Leopard itself. Modifications to BackJack are required to maintain compatibility and we have been working hard for several months to implement these changes. However, early testing with both 10.6.0 (the current release) and beta versions of 10.6.1 have shown that there are still some low-level changes being made to Snow Leopard and it continues to be a moving target. We have therefore determined that focusing on the specific release version of 10.6.2 will be the quickest and most efficient strategy to obtain long-term compatibility.

Although we do not know the schedule for future releases of Snow Leopard, based on past major operating system releases by Apple, it is likely that a newer version of Snow Leopard (v 10.6.1) may be available in the next few weeks. We will be testing against all future releases by Apple but it is not expected that the newer version will fix the compatibility issues we are currently experiencing with BackJack.

The current versions of BackJack (both version 4 and 5) are not compatible with Mac OS X Snow Leopard (10.6) recently released by Apple. In order to ensure the secure, off-site protection of your critical files, we recommend that you do not upgrade your operating system to Snow Leopard until a compatible version of BackJack has been released.

We are working hard preparing a Snow Leopard compatible version and will post news and updates to this page as new information becomes available. Please note that a release date has not been set.
