Reinstalling BackJack 5

The documentation below is for reinstalling BackJack after a disaster (ie. you have already performed backups and are storing data on our servers).

ACTION: Download the software here

This will guide you through the Setup Assistant process and allow you to rebuild your files currently being stored on our servers.

You must have the following information available before starting this process:

  • your BackJack Account ID
  • your Username (ie. the Username that you want to rebuild)
  • your User Password
  • the Encryption Passphrase used to encrypt the files on your computer

Introduction

ACTION: Select 'Already have an Account' and click CONTINUE.

To reinstall and rebuild the list of previously backed up files, you need to enter the same account information that was entered the first time you set up BackJack for this computer. This information was emailed to you when you originally registered for an Account with us.

ACTION: Enter the information and click CONTINUE. None of these fields can be left empty. If BackJack is unable to validate the information, you will receive an error message.

Important: These fields are case sensitive.

Encryption

ACTION: Enter the Passphrase that you originally used when you first set up BackJack. It must be entered exactly the same. Unfortunately, if you do not know your original Passphrase, there is no way to recover your files.

Important: This field is case sensitive.

If you are unsure of the original Encryption Passphrase and need to see the hint, click on 'Show Hint'. Note that the hint will be displayed only if you originally entered it via the original Setup process.

ACTION: Click Continue to proceed with rebuilding your file list from our servers.

BackJack will connect to our servers to confirm the accuracy of your Encryption Passphrase. If the information is incorrect, you will receive the following error message:

ACTION: OK the window and re-attempt entering your Encryption Passphrase.

BackJack will be unable to proceed until the corrrect (original) Encryption Passphrase is confirmed. In order to rebuild your file list and successfully decrypt the files being stored, the exact Encryption Passphrase is required.

If you have entered the correct Encryption Passphrase, BackJack will proceed with rebuilding your file list. You will then receive the following screen:

ACTION: Click done to launch BackJack.

You will now be at the main Backup window where all original settings will be intact (ie. items to back up, schedule, etc.). If you need to recover files, please click on the Restore button at the top of this window.
