Preferences
This feature allows you to review and edit your system-wide preference settings.
When you click on 'Preferences' from the Console window you will come to a screen that shows you 6 tabs as follows:
- Account - change information that you have previously entered including your Account ID (if you entered it incorrectly or not at all during Setup Assistant), Password, Computer ID, maximum log size
- Email - edit your email settings including advanced SMTP settings
- Revisions - edit Revision options
- Deletes - edit Delete options
- Proxy - set http proxy information
- Remote - no fields can be modified by end user
Account
Account ID - this is the BackJack Account Number that you received when you first registered with us online.
Password - this field shows the password that you entered during the online registration process. If you would like to change your password, please call us first for instructions at 888 421 0220.
Computer ID - the name that is assigned to uniquely identify your computer - Note: spaces will be replaced with underscore characters
Maximum Log Size - The BackJack log gets purged each time BackJack quits. By default, the maximum log file size is 1 MB but can be changed to any amount up to a maximum of 99 MBs. Note that the log is _only_ purged when quitting.

You have the option of receiving (or not receiving) confirmation emails via the checkbox. We recommend that you choose to receive these emails since they summarize important information about your backup session(s) including items backed up, problems (if any), compression achieved, current storage level on our servers, etc. The email address that you provide in this field is where confirmation of your backups are sent.
Note: you can provide multiple email addresses by separating them with a comma (ie. admin@yourcompany.com, joe@yourcompany.com, tech@wherever.com)
Note: an SMTP server address must be entered as well if you want to receive confirmation emails. If you are unsure what your SMTP server address is, you can confirm via your email program or contact your system administrator. If your ISP requires authenticated SMTP, you will also be required to activate this checkbox and complete the appropriate fields. Again, these settings are available via your email program.

Revision Options
Important: The options that you set here apply only to new items added to a backup set and do not affect the items for any existing sets.

The first, entitled "Revision Options" is where you choose what you want to occur when a file has been changed and needs to be backed up again. You can select:
- Replace older copy - this means that every time you run a backup set (where BackJack detects changed items), it will overwrite (or replace) the older copy of that file that you are storing on our servers.
- Keep XX older copies - 1 (one) is the default setting and the option that we recommend for the majority of users. It means that you will always have one older copy of any revised file on our servers. Remember, it will only update these copies if your data has changed.
- Keep all older copies - this option means that each time you run a specific backup set, it will create another copy of the changed file on our servers.
ACTION: Select the option that is best for you. You can change this at any time.
Delete Options
Important: The options that you set here apply only to new items added to a backup set and do not affect the items for any existing sets.
The second option, entitled "Delete Options" is where we give you the choice of what you want to occur when an Item (previously backed up as part of an existing backup set) has been deleted from your hard drive. In this situation, you need to tell BackJack what you want to do with the copy that you previously backed up to our servers. You can select:
- Leave copies in backup set (remove manually) - this means that the Item will remain safely stored on our servers until you decide you no longer want to store it. You can delete at any time via the Maintenance Window.
- Remove all copies from backup set after xx days - 15 days is the default setting - What this means is that BackJack will continue to store this Item for the number of days you specify and then purge it automatically. It will relay this information to you via your confirmation emails (ie. that the info will be removed in 15 days).

ACTION: Select the option that is best for you. You can change this at any time.
Proxy
Set HTTP proxy information and BackJack's database communications will now respect these settings, thereby allowing BackJack to be used when there is a restricted proxy server in place.
