Backup and Restore Flash and Never Have to Restart your App Development from Scratch Again

Description: This article shows you where to find your Flash project files and settings and how to backup and restore these items.

Backup:

  1. Quit Flash
  2. Locate your *.fla project files found by default here:
    ~/Documents
  3. Copy these files to your backup media
  4. Note: There is no need to backup your project media (e.g. audio, video, etc). They are all contained in your *.fla files
  5. Locate the 'Flash CS5' folder found here:
    ~/Library/Application Support/Adobe
  6. Copy this folder to your backup media
  7. Locate the com.adobe.flash.plist file found here:
    ~/Library/Preferences
  8. Copy this file to your backup media
  9. You have now successfully backed up Flash

Do this with BackJack

Restore:

  1. Quit Flash
  2. Recover the *.fla project files that you backed up
  3. Copy them into their default location found here:
    ~/Documents
  4. Recover the 'Flash CS5' folder that you backed up
  5. Copy it into here:
    ~/Library/Application Support/Adobe
  6. Recover the com.adobe.flash.plist file that you backed up
  7. Copy it into here:
    ~/Library/Preferences
  8. Enter the username and password for an administrator on your computer and click continue
  9. Launch Flash located here:
    /Applications/Adobe Flash CS5/
  10. You have successfully restored Flash
