To use BackJack, your system must meet the following minimum requirements: a. A Power Macintosh, iMac or iBook BackJack is currently only available for use on Power Macs, iMacs or iBooks. b. System Software Version 7.1 or higher If you're unsure of the system software version installed on your Macintosh, choose the first item from the Finder's Apple menu (About This Computer, About This Macintosh or About This Finder), depending upon the version of the system software you're using. A window appears displaying the system software version number. If your version number is below 7.1, you won't be able to install BackJack. System software upgrades are available from most Macintosh software distributors. c. At least 7 megabytes (MB) of available hard disk space The easiest way to check the amount of hard disk space available on your Macintosh is to open any folder in the Finder. If you're using Icon View or Small Icon View, the window header of the open folder displays the amount of available hard disk space in the right-hand corner. To install BackJack, you'll need at least 7 MB available. d. At least 3 MB of available memory (RAM) to run BackJack, therefore we recommend a minimum RAM of 8 MB. To find the amount of RAM installed on your Macintosh, choose About This Computer, About This Macintosh or About This Finder from the Apple Menu (depending upon the version of the system software you're using). Figures pertaining to RAM are in the window that appears. The Total Memory field displays the amount of RAM installed in your Macintosh which should be at least 8192K (or 8 MB). BackJack requires 3000K or 3 MB of this 8 MB in order to run. Users with large numbers of files (more than a few thousand) will need more. e. PPP, SLIP or direct network access to the Internet (28.8 kbps minimum) f. Open Transport v 1.1.1 or greater To determine whether you are running Open Transport, select Control Panels from your Apple Menu. If you have a TCP/IP Control Panel, this means that you are running Open Transport - check to make sure that the version is 1.1.1 or greater. If you simply have a TCP Control Panel, you are not running Open Transport and can obtain a free version by visiting www.apple.com.
