The documentation below is for reinstalling BackJack after you have already performed backups (ie. you have information stored on our servers). We're assuming at this point that you have downloaded the software from our site. If not, feel free to do that now from our downloads support page. ACTION: Once you have downloaded the software, you can begin by double clicking the BJ icon found in your BackJack folder. This will guide you through the Easy Setup process and help you to rebuild your file list currently stored on our servers. You must have the following information available before starting this process:
Welcome Screen BackJack defaults to first time installation; therefore, select the Re-installing radio button. If you click DONE at this point, you will receive a message indicating that you are about to leave Easy Setup without setting up your Encryption Key (a necessity before running BackJack). You will have the option of quitting and finishing Easy Setup at a later time or continuing on with the Easy Setup process.
Identification Screen The second Easy Setup screen you come to will be the Identification Screen. Here, we require you to enter the same account information that was entered the first time you set up BackJack for this computer. The following table describes the entries you see when setting up your identification for BackJack:
ACTION: Once you have entered this information, click NEXT to continue. If you click DONE at this point, you will receive a message indicating that you are about to leave Easy Setup without setting up your Encryption Key. You will have the option of quitting and finishing Easy Setup at a later time or continuing on with the Easy Setup process.
Encryption Key Setup Screen The third Easy Setup screen is the Encryption Key Setup Screen. It is here that you will need to indicate which type of encryption you used when originally installing BackJack. 99% of our clients use Standard Encryption. ACTION: Select the Standard or Advanced Radio Button.
If you selected Standard Encryption, the following window will appear:
ACTION: Enter the Pass Phrase that you originally used when you first
set up BackJack. It must be entered exactly the same. If you do not remember your original Pass Phrase, there is no
way to recover your files. ACTION: Enter the Pass Phrase that you originally used when you first set up BackJack. It must be entered exactly the same. Once you have done this, select the 'Locate Unique Key' button to show BackJack where your original Encrypt.Key file was kept (you will need to insert the disk). BackJack will then copy this file to the correct location. Rebuilding your File List To recover your files from the BackJack servers, you must first rebuild your list of stored files. Here's how the window will appear:
ACTION: Select the 'Rebuild List Now' button to begin rebuilding your file list. You also have the option of selecting 'Rebuild List Later' - however, please note that before you can perform backups you will need to rebuild the list at some point. If you defer this function now, you can perform it later via the Recover Window. Once you have completed rebuilding your file list, you can recover your files in the Recover window by clicking the 'Recover' button accessed from the BackJack Console.
